About This Trail
Located north of Chatsworth and Ellijay Georgia in the beautiful Cohutta Wilderness, you can see Fort Mountain in the distance. This trail is 2 miles, but 4 miles for the round trip. It is more remote than the nearby state parks like Fort Mountain since it’s a designated wilderness area, so expect a long bumpy gravel road to get there. Parking for the trail is at the boat ramp, there is no parking for day hiking at the camp ground. It’s a short walk from the boat ramp to the camp ground, where the trail head is and there is a bathroom at the camp ground.
The trail begins at the dam and leads to the top of Grassy Mountain, where there is a tower offering a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. You will gain altitude during most of the hike, but it’s a moderate pace. The tower can be locked during parts of the year and it’s recommended you call the forest service before you go if climbing the tower is a must for you.
This is a good trail if you are looking for something a little more moderate to strenuous with some solitude.
