About This Trail
Lake Conasauga Trail is a scenic 0.9-mile loop that circles the highest lake in Georgia, situated at an elevation of 3,150 feet in the Chattahoochee National Forest. This easy and accessible trail offers stunning views of the 19-acre lake, which was created by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The well-maintained path winds through a mixed forest of hardwoods and hemlocks, providing excellent opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife observation. The lake is stocked with trout, making it popular with anglers, and a fishing pier provides wheelchair-accessible fishing opportunities. Wildflowers bloom along the trail in spring, and the surrounding forest displays brilliant colors in autumn. Picnic facilities and a campground make this an ideal destination for a day trip or overnight adventure in the North Georgia mountains.
