About This Trail

Descending the northern flank of Roan Mountain along FS Road 53281, this old stagecoach route switchbacks through Cherokee National Forest from Carvers Gap. Hidden waterfalls and rushing streams reward those who venture off the overgrown switchbacks on this lightly traveled historic road trail.

From Nashville, take I-40 east toward Cookeville and exit onto local roads leading into the Cherokee National Forest. The Hack Line Road Trail is accessible via forest service roads; use GPS coordinates 36.122, -86.501 for navigation.
