About This Trail

Hemp Top Trail is a strenuous 2-mile out-and-back hike in Towns County, Georgia, that climbs to the summit of Hemp Top, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. The trail ascends through a diverse Appalachian forest featuring oaks, hickories, and mountain laurels, with the grade becoming steeper as you approach the summit. At the top, hikers are rewarded with sweeping 360-degree views that include Brasstown Bald, Lake Chatuge, and the distant peaks of the Nantahala and Cherokee National Forests. The elevation gain makes this trail best suited for experienced hikers seeking a challenging workout. Spring wildflowers and fall foliage make this hike particularly scenic. The relatively short distance combined with the significant elevation gain creates an excellent training hike for those preparing for longer mountain treks.
