About This Trail

A steep 7.8-mile round-trip ascent to Katahdin’s 5,267-foot Baxter Peak via the shortest roadside route, fully exposed above treeline after 2.5 miles. Relocated in 2015 to a ridge west of the original slide, the trail demands an early start on warm days due to limited water and intense sun on the open alpine terrain.
