About This Trail

A 6-mile backcountry approach from Roaring Brook Campground to Chimney Pond, a pristine alpine tarn nestled in a glacial cirque beneath Katahdin’s towering headwall. The trail serves as the gateway to the Cathedral, Dudley, and Saddle trails ascending the east side of Katahdin, passing through dense boreal forest with rocky footing throughout.

Getting There

From the Togue Pond Gatehouse at Baxter State Park, take the Perimeter Road to Roaring Brook Campground. The Chimney Pond Trail begins at the ranger station at the campground.
