About This Trail
Long Branch Loop is a 2.3-mile trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest of Fannin County, Georgia, following old logging roads through a regenerating forest area. The trail crosses Long Branch creek at the mile marker and offers a connector at 0.9 miles to the Green Mountain Trail for those seeking extended hiking options. The regenerating forest provides interesting opportunities to observe ecological succession as the land recovers from past logging activity. Wildlife is abundant in this transitional habitat, with deer, wild turkeys, and various songbirds commonly spotted. The relatively easy terrain and moderate distance make this suitable for hikers building endurance or seeking a less strenuous option in the national forest. Spring wildflowers take advantage of the increased sunlight in the young forest, creating colorful displays along the path.
