The most popular route to New York’s highest summit at 5,344 feet, covering 14.8 miles round-trip from the Adirondack Loj. The trail passes through Marcy Dam before climbing steadily to the alpine zone. Allow 7 to 10 hours for this demanding High Peaks flagship hike.

Getting There

From Lake Placid, take Route 73 east and turn right onto Adirondack Loj Road. Drive 5 miles to the Heart Lake parking area. The Van Hoevenberg Trail to Mount Marcy starts from the High Peaks Information Center.
