Reaching a 250-foot-wide sandstone cave near Ewing via the Ewing Trail, hikers find an acre of multicolored sand beneath eroding rock ceilings. At nearly 3,500 feet, White Rocks Overlook adds 500-foot sheer cliffs and tri-state views to this Cumberland Gap adventure.

Getting There

From Ewing, Virginia, access the Sand Cave Trail via the Ewing Trail at Thomas Walker Civic Park. Follow the double-track trail north for 3.7 miles to the Sand Cave spur in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.
