About This Trail
The loop begins at the Savage Ranger Station in South Cumberland State Recreation Area and crosses a field and Boyd Branch (via a suspension bridge) before reaching the junction for the loop, located one mile into the hike. At mile 1.5, a spur trail leads hikers to Savage Falls Overlook. At 2 miles, the trail leads past Rattlesnake Point Overlook, which offers a stunning view of Savage Gulf. The trail follows an old railroad bed starting at 2.8 miles until it reaches the loop junction again at 3.2 miles.
