About This Trail
A 3.8-mile loop ascending Bear Mountain via the Major Welch Trail’s rock scrambles, then descending on the Appalachian Trail past Hessian Lake. The rocky summit offers panoramic views of the Hudson River, Bear Mountain Bridge, and Anthony’s Nose. The AT section here features some of its most extensive stone stairwork.
