About This Trail

Climbing steeply for the first 0.7 miles before leveling along an enchanted, lichen-covered ridge, this classic hike reaches Big Schloss summit at 2,964 feet. Spectacular 270-degree views from the rocky peak span across the Ridge and Valley Appalachians along the Virginia-West Virginia border.

Getting There

From Woodstock, VA, take Route 263 west toward Wolf Gap Recreation Area in George Washington National Forest. At Wolf Gap, park at the campground and follow the Big Schloss Trail west along the ridge to the summit overlook.
