About This Trail

Following an old road through New River Gorge forest to the site of an 1890s coal mine, this 5.4-mile route passes decayed mine workings and remnants of 50 beehive coke ovens. Rolling terrain with gorge views through the trees rewards hikers exploring the industrial heritage of Fayette County.
