About This Trail

A strenuous three-quarter-mile route through rough, rocky terrain past large boulders to the base of Maryland’s tallest waterfall, the 78-foot Cunningham Falls. The Cliff Trail pairs with the gentler Lower Trail for a popular 1.2-mile loop with 259 feet of elevation gain.

Getting There

From Thurmont, take MD-77 west into Cunningham Falls State Park. Turn south on Catoctin Hollow Road to the William Houck Area. The Cliff Trail trailhead is near the lake and falls parking areas.
