About This Trail
Emery Creek Trail is a scenic but challenging 7.5-mile out-and-back hike in the Cohutta Wilderness of Murray County, Georgia, following two beautiful mountain streams through remote wilderness. The trail winds along Holly Creek and Emery Creek, requiring somewhat frequent stream fords that can be tricky after heavy rains. The route passes through a diverse forest of hemlocks, rhododendrons, and hardwoods, with numerous small cascades and swimming holes along the way. The trail ends at a primitive camping area atop Grassy Mountain, making this an excellent backpacking destination. Wildlife is abundant in this remote area, including deer, black bears, wild boar, and various bird species. The combination of stream scenery, wilderness solitude, and challenging terrain makes this a favorite among experienced hikers seeking adventure in North Georgia.
