About This Trail
Isle Royale’s signature 40-mile end-to-end traverse following the volcanic ridgeline spine of the island from Rock Harbor to Windigo, summiting Mount Desor, the island’s highest point. This remote wilderness backpacking route typically takes 4-6 days and gains nearly 4,000 feet of cumulative elevation. Watch for moose in lowland crossings and wolves in the distance.
