About This Trail

Scaling the craggy, jagged summit to 4,009 feet in Linville Gorge Wilderness, this steep ascent gains 679 feet in under a mile. Split summit viewpoints reveal Table Rock, Shortoff Mountain, Lake James, and the gorge floor 2,000 feet below in one of North Carolina’s most dramatic panoramas.

Getting There

From Marion, take US-221 north to Highway 183, then south on Highway 181 for 3 miles to Gingercake Road. Turn left, stay left on road 1264, and continue 2.5 miles on unpaved forest road to the Hawksbill Mountain parking area on the left.
