About This Trail

An 11-mile section of the 80-mile High Country Pathway network through the heart of Pigeon River Country, home to one of the largest free-roaming elk herds east of the Mississippi. The route traverses rolling hardwood forests, cedar swamps, and open meadows in Otsego County. Remote terrain with seasonal wildlife viewing opportunities.

Getting There

From Vanderbilt, take I-75 to M-32 east, then head north on Sturgeon Valley Road to the Pigeon River Country State Forest. The High Country Pathway trailhead is off Tin Shanty Road with multiple forest campground access points.
