About This Trail
Plunging over 800 wooden steps down into the New River Gorge, this iconic staircase trail reaches the abandoned Kaymoor coal mine that produced 16.9 million tons between 1900 and 1962. Moss-covered ruins, rusted machinery, and New River views at the bottom reward those who brave the 951-foot descent.
