About This Trail

Explore Virginia’s 40th state park along the York River, where trails weave through tidal wetlands, loblolly pine forest, and open fields. Interpretive displays honor the Powhatan alliance of Tribes who called this land Machicomoco, meaning ‘a special meeting place.’ Oyster-shell paths and boardwalks lead to river views.

Getting There

From Gloucester, take US-17 south to Timberneck Farm Road in Hayes. Follow it to Machicomoco State Park at 3601 Timberneck Farm Road. The Coastal Loop trail starts near the interpretive area.
