About This Trail

Challenging 6.5-mile loop ascending Maryland Heights above Harpers Ferry to Civil War gun batteries, stone breastworks, and a powder magazine at the summit. Spectacular overlooks reveal the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers far below. Rocky, muddy sections demand sturdy footwear and careful footing.

Getting There

From the Harpers Ferry Visitor Center, take the shuttle to Lower Town. Cross the pedestrian bridge over the Potomac River and turn left on the C&O Canal Towpath 0.3 miles to the Maryland Heights trailhead.
