About This Trail

A 1.7-mile Appalachian Trail climb gaining 577 feet via stone steps and switchbacks to one of Maryland’s premier overlooks, perched 500 feet above the Potomac River at the southern tip of South Mountain. Popular with DC and Baltimore day hikers for its accessible yet rewarding views.

Getting There

From Frederick, take I-70 west to US 340 south toward Harpers Ferry. Take the MD 67 exit toward Boonsboro, then turn right on Weverton Cliff Road to the parking lot.
