Moderate 2.5-mile loop in Canaan Valley Resort State Park with 321 feet of elevation gain, passing through meadow edges and hardwood forest. Views from Balsam Swamp Overlook reveal the Blackwater River valley below. One of Tucker County’s top wildlife-viewing trails, popular with runners and birders year-round.

Getting There

From Davis, take WV-32 south into Canaan Valley Resort State Park. The Middle Ridge Trail trailhead is accessible from the WV Natural Resources Road within the park.
