About This Trail

A 1.2-mile spur trail branching from the AT near Old Speck’s 4,180-foot summit to reach the observation tower atop Maine’s third-highest mountain. The short climb through stunted spruce delivers sweeping views of the Mahoosuc Range, Grafton Notch, and the Presidential Range in New Hampshire from the tower platform.

Getting There

From Bethel, take ME-26 north about 12 miles to Grafton Notch State Park. The Old Speck trailhead and parking are on the west side of ME-26 at the Appalachian Trail crossing, well-signed at the north end of the park.
