About This Trail

A 5.4-mile forest trail climbing to Speck Pond, Maine’s highest alpine lake at 3,400 feet elevation, a sub-alpine tarn set within the Mahoosuc Range’s 9,993-acre Ecological Reserve. The route connects to the Appalachian Trail and the high ridgeline between Old Speck and Mahoosuc Notch, with an AMC shelter at the pond.

Getting There

From Newry, take ME-26 north. Turn onto North Pond Road and follow it south for approximately 10 miles. Watch for the trailhead just south of Four Corners Road on the left, marked with blue blazes.
