About This Trail

A 7.3-mile out-and-back climb to the 3,940-foot summit where Benton MacKaye conceived the Appalachian Trail while building the Long Trail. A renovated 70-foot CCC-era fire tower, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, crowns the summit with views of the Green and Taconic ranges.

Getting There

From West Wardsboro, take Stratton-Arlington Road (Kelley Stand Road) west about 7 miles. Park at the Long Trail/Appalachian Trail crossing. The summit trail follows the AT/LT north for 3.8 miles.
