About This Trail
A 4.1-mile loop through the 2,000-acre Tionesta Scenic and Research Natural Areas, home to one of the largest remaining old-growth forests in the Allegheny Plateau region. The rugged trail crosses blow-down areas from past storms amid towering hemlocks and American beeches. Remote and lightly traveled, this loop offers a glimpse of what Pennsylvania’s forests looked like before the lumber era.
