About This Trail

A moderate climb in the White Rocks National Recreation Area near Wallingford to dramatic quartzite cliffs exposed by glacial action 12,000 years ago. The nearby Ice Beds Trail descends to a talus field where cold air trapped between boulders preserves ice well into summer.

Getting There

From Wallingford, take Route 140 east 2.1 miles to Sugar Hill Road. Turn right, then right again onto Forest Road 52 and follow it 0.5 miles to the White Rocks Picnic Area trailhead.
