About This Trail

A three-quarter-mile interpretive trail through Assateague Island’s dune and shrub thicket habitats, with sand paths, steps, and remnants of old Baltimore Boulevard. Wild horses roam freely in the area, and the route begins at the South Beach parking lot in the Maryland district.

Getting There

From Berlin, MD, take Route 611 south to Assateague Island National Seashore. Follow the main park road past the entrance station. The Life of the Dunes Trail parking is at the end of the paved road near South Ocean Beach.
