About This Trail

A classic 10.2-mile loop combining the Horns Pond and Fire Warden trails through the Bigelow Preserve, passing the alpine Horns Pond basin nestled between the twin Horns peaks at 3,805 feet. The route traverses exposed ridgelines on the Appalachian Trail with 3,835 feet of elevation gain and views spanning from Flagstaff Lake to Sugarloaf.

Getting There

From Stratton, ME, take ME-27 south 4.6 miles to Stratton Brook Pond Road. Turn left onto the gravel road and drive 1.6 miles to the end at the trailhead parking lot. The Horns Pond Trail diverges left from the Fire Wardens Trail after 1.2 miles.
