About This Trail
This segment of the 43-mile Black Forest Trail begins near the village of Slate Run in Pine Creek Gorge, tackling rugged 1,000-foot climbs from the gorge floor to the Allegheny Plateau. The full loop accumulates over 8,500 feet of elevation gain through some of Pennsylvania’s most scenic and challenging backcountry. Remote hollows, plateau vistas, and remnants of 19th-century logging operations line the route.
