About This Trail

Beginning at Moses Cone Manor off Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 294, this wide gravel carriage road switchbacks through forest to a 40-foot fire tower atop Flat Top Mountain. Clear days reveal Mt. Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, and Appalachian State University’s campus from the 360-degree summit panorama.

Getting There

From Blowing Rock, take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Milepost 294 at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Park. Park at the manor house lot and follow the wide gravel Flat Top Road uphill toward the carriage house to begin the trail.
