About This Trail

Descending through Citico Creek Wilderness in the Tellico Ranger District, this trail follows Grassy and Eagle Branches through rich old-growth forest with cherry, beech, and poplar. Nine creek crossings and 1,279 feet of elevation change make this a rewarding backcountry challenge rarely visited by other hikers.

Getting There

From Gatlinburg, take Newfound Gap Road (US-441) south 22 miles to the Kephart Prong parking area. Hike 2.1 miles on the Kephart Prong Trail to reach the Grassy Branch Trail junction at the shelter.
