About This Trail

Route to Virginia’s highest peak at 5,729 feet through rare Southern Appalachian spruce-fir forest and open alpine-like meadows. Wild ponies roam the highland balds near Grayson Highlands, and rhododendron blooms color the trail in June. Dense moss-draped spruce groves shroud the summit in perpetual green twilight.
