About This Trail

Winding through 1,565 acres of gently rolling hills and James River bluffs at Powhatan State Park. Wildflower meadows and mature hardwood forest alternate along 2.5 miles of river frontage. Prothonotary warblers nest along the River Trail in summer, and clear winter views reveal waterfowl on the historic James.

Getting There

From Richmond, take I-64 west to exit 167 for VA-617. Follow Route 522 south (Maidens Road) approximately 1.9 miles to Route 617 west (Old River Trail). Turn right and continue 1.5 miles to the Powhatan State Park entrance.
