About This Trail

A 4-mile trek through Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area featuring some of the largest glacial erratics in New Jersey, including the famous 180-ton Tripod Rock balanced on three smaller stones. Other notable boulders include Bear Rock and the whale-shaped Whale Head Rock. Nearby “Solstice Stones” may mark a Native American ceremonial site.

Getting There

From Boonton, take I-287 to Exit 45, turn left onto Wootton Street, then right onto Boonton Avenue (CR-511). Continue about 4 miles north; the Pyramid Mountain Visitor Center and parking are on the left.
