About This Trail

Tackle the steepest and narrowest gap on Vermont’s Long Trail, scrambling over wet rocks and through mud in the tight confines of Smugglers Notch. The demanding section rewards with dramatic rocky scenery and connects to Sterling Pond and Mount Mansfield routes.

Getting There

From Stowe, take VT-108 north approximately 10 miles through Smugglers Notch. Park at the Barnes Camp Visitor Center. The Long Trail crosses Route 108 here heading south toward Madonna Peak.
