About This Trail

A gorge-rim trail through Ausable Chasm, a 500-million-year-old sandstone gorge carved by the Ausable River near Lake Champlain. The dramatic vertical walls plunge up to 150 feet with bridges and overlooks along the route. One of the oldest natural tourist attractions in the United States, operating since 1870.

Getting There

From Plattsburgh, take I-87 south to Exit 35, then follow Route 9 south approximately 12 miles. The Ausable Chasm entrance is on the left along Route 9. Park in the main lot and purchase tickets at the visitor center.
