About This Trail
This trail follows Oil Creek through the historic birthplace of the American petroleum industry, where the world’s first commercial oil well was drilled in 1859. The gorge trail passes remnants of oil-boom-era infrastructure alongside creek views and four waterfalls. Located in Oil Creek State Park, which preserves 52 miles of trails through the scenic valley where Drake Well launched the oil age.
