About This Trail
A steep 0.75-mile climb up Piney Mountain gains 508 feet to Pole Steeple, a dramatic white and maroon quartzite rock outcropping overlooking all of Pine Grove Furnace State Park. The park marks the midpoint of the 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail and hosts the Appalachian Trail Museum. A short but intense ascent rewarded with one of Cumberland Valley’s best viewpoints.
