About This Trail
Built by quarry workers in the 1930s, 1,039 irregular stone steps of Tuscarora quartzite climb 850 feet in just half a mile up Jacks Mountain to broad ridge vistas at 2,321 feet. The steps were carved from the same ganister stone mined here to make heat-resistant silica bricks. Part of the 80-mile Standing Stone Trail, this Huntingdon County landmark draws 20,000-30,000 visitors annually.
