About This Trail

A classic western Maine climb to a rare alpine pond known as Crater Lake, nestled at 2,800 feet and surrounded on three sides by higher elevations. Multiple routes of varying difficulty reach the summit, with the Loop Trail offering rugged boulder scrambling through a dramatic cliff-lined gully.

Getting There

From Weld, take ME 142 north 2.3 miles and turn left onto Byron Road. Continue approximately 5.8 miles on the dirt road to the Loop Trail trailhead and parking area on the left.
